WHAT GREAT MANAGERS DO DIFFERENTLY : INSIGHTS FOR EFFECTIVE LEADERSHIP

Introduction

Effective leadership is important for the success of every organization. Good leaders possess an effective management is crucial for the success of any organization. Great managers possess an exclusive skill sets and characters that assist them to stand out from the other leaders. Ability of these leaders to Their ability to motivate and lead their respective teams differentiate these leaders in the field of leadership. This article explores the key qualities and actions that will create great leaders who stand out from the rest of the leaders and give and actions that make great managers stand out and provides inputs on how these leaders can contribute to their organization’s success.

1. Building Trust and Relationships

Good leaders have the ability to understand the importance of the trust and they are investing the time to build good relationship with their team members. Good leaders actively listen to their team member’s concerns, give required support and supports for a work environment where all members in the team feels valued and respected. Good leaders earn the trust and loyalty of their team by representing integrity and transparency which leads to the increase of collaboration and productivity within their teams. Building trust is not easy for leaders as (Carucci, 2021) explains that People’s expectations and definition of trustworthiness are broadening for leaders, and it takes a lot to gain that trust. And also (Lewis, 2022) states that Trust is one of the most vital forms of capital a leader has today. This has supported by (Hall, 2023) as he emphasis that trust is the cornerstone of effective leadership and the foundation for building strong teams. Therefore, building trust and making relationship is one of key quality leaders needs to have.

2. Effective Communication

Effective communication must have quality for the great leaders. Effective communication assist leaders to communicate team goals clearly to the team so team members are well aware of what leader is expecting from them. Thus, leaders also can give constructive feedback and make sure all are is on same page. Irrespective of the method or occasion leaders use to communicate within the team good leaders always keep the communications with the team open for everyone and also encourage open discussion among team members. In an article wrote for Harvard Business Scholl (Landry, 2019) states that “If you want to be an effective leader, you need to excel in communication. In fact, the success of your business relies on it”. (Amdur, 2020) says that of all the skills attributed to leaders and by which leaders are identified communication is universally agreed upon as the most important and the most indispensable. This shows how important effective communication for the leaders. And as per (Dagostino, 2021) leaders needs to remember that communication works both ways and that it is not only about what goes out but also, most importantly, about what goes in. This emphasis the importance of listing too. For that, you need to listen as well.

3. Empowering and Developing Others

(Krow, 2017) said “The effective leaders are the ones who empower others”. According to (Boris, 2021) best leaders make the purposeful choice to empower everyone they lead, whoever they are, wherever they are. That shows that the leaders have to have the ability to empower others in their team. Great leaders are always empowering their teams. They are using the methods such as delegating tasks, giving the autonomy to do that. Good leaders make opportunities for the development by giving training, mentoring team members and coaching team members to reach their full potential. By doing that for their team’s professional development good leaders not only improve individual performance but also create a culture of continuous learning and development. When empowering and developing others in the team leaders need to avoid micromanagement. That’s a huge minus point for empowering and developing others. About micromanagement (Craig, 2019) said “There are good reasons for having a basic set of expectations for getting things done, and a general outline for how you want those things accomplished, but managing your team members' daily processes probably doesn't need to go further than that”. That shows us it’s a thing to avoid if anyone needs to be a good leader.

4. Leading by Example

Leading by example is a core principle of good leaders. Good leaders are always representing the values and actions they are expecting from their team members. Good leaders always have the actions than the words which will inspire others also in their teams to match leader’s behavior and maintain company standards. As per (Lipman, 2016) there are two highly practical reasons why leading by example makes excellent career and business sense due to its effectiveness and making people want to follow you. Regarding leading by example (Martins, 2024) said “Developing your leadership skills and learning to actively lead by example can help you model effective ways for your team to make the most impact. These further supports the fact that leading by example is core principle of leaders.

5. Adaptability and Resilience

As per (Gavin, 2019) to successfully navigate through times of uncertainty and lead your team to success, you need to be adaptable, proactive, and, perhaps most importantly, resilient. That shows in today’s competitive and unpredictable business environment adaptability and resilience are one of the must have qualities for the leaders to be successful. Good leaders stay flexible and adaptable even when changes are happening, guiding their team through the transitioning period to overcome the obstacles with good confidence. Good leaders don’t see the challenges negatively. They see challenges as opportunities for growth and will always encourage their team members to face the changes positively.

Conclusion

Great leaders play an importance part in leading the success of the organization. By building trust among team members, with their effective communication, empowering team members, leading by example and showing the ability of adaptability good leaders create high performing teams and create a culture with excellence in its their field of operation. By representing these important attributes and actions good leaders can motivate their teams to achieve greater success.

  3. Yes and Effective leaders empower their teams through delegating tasks, providing autonomy, and offering training, mentoring, and coaching. They not only improve individual performance but also create a culture of continuous learning and development. However, they should avoid micromanagement, which can hinder the development process. While having a basic set of expectations and a general outline is important, managing daily processes is unnecessary for a good leader.

There are many things that managers can do to establish trust with their employees, which include being open and honest about changes that will impact them; effectively communicating by talking to them, not at them; having an open-door policy, and then following up; and being willing to pitch in to help (Forbes,2017).
